Megan Ryan is an American actress who began appearing in TV commercials at age 18. In 1981, she made her movie debut in “Rich and Famous.” The following year, she made her TV debut in the ABC Afterschool Special “Army and the Angel.” Also in 1982, Megan Ryan landed a recurring role in the long-running TV drama “As the World Turns,” portraying Betsy Stewart until 1984. During her time on the show, Ryan also worked on other projects, including a role on the movie “Amityville 3-D” and guest appearances on TV shows “One of the Boys,” “Charles in Charge” and “Wildside.”

In 1986, Megan Ryan played Carole Bradshaw in the hit movie “Top Gun.” The following year, she starred in the movie “Innerspace,” working alongside her soon-to-be husband Dennis Quaid. Megan then appeared in the movies “Promised Land,” and “The Presidio.”

In 1989, Megan Ryan starred in her first highly successful romantic comedy film “When Harry Met Sally.” Working alongside Billy Crystal, Megan’s portrayal of Sally Bright led to a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Best Actress.’ The following year, she worked opposite Tom Hanks in “Joe Versus the Volcano.” In 1991, Ryan played Pamela Morrison in the Oliver Stone biopic of “The Doors,” followed by the Craig Lucas movie “Prelude to a Kiss.”

In 1993, Megan Ryan reunited with Tom Hanks for the box-office hit “Sleepless in Seattle,” which led to another Golden Globe nomination. That same year, she launched her own production company called Fandango Films (which was later renamed to Prufrock Pictures). Also in 1993, Megan Ryan worked with then-husband Dennis Quaid on “Flesh and Bone.”

Megan Ryan proved her dramatic acting chops in 1994 when she portrayed an alcoholic in the drama “When a Man Loves a Woman,” which earned her a SAG nomination. In 1995, Ryan starred and made her debut as a producer in “French Kiss.” 1998 was a big year for Megan as she starred in the internationally successful Wings of Desire remake “City of Angels” and received a Golden Globe nod for her work on “You’ve Got Mail” opposite Tom Hanks. Other movie credits of Megan in the 1990s include “Courage Under Fire,” “Addicted to Love,” “Hurlyburly,” and film-noir remake “D.O.A.”

In 2000, Megan Ryan worked opposite Russell Crowe in “Proof of Life.” She then went back to her roots in the 2001 comedy-romance movie “Kate & Leopold,” followed by the 2003 thriller flick “In the Cut” and 2004 boxing film “Against the Ropes.” Some of Ryan’s recent works include “In the Land of Women,” “The Deal,” “Homeland Security,” “The Women,” and “Serious Moonlight.”
